An abbey perched on top of a rocky islet. A tower pointing to the sky completing that pyramidal shape that begins at the base with walls that have seen more than one war. One of the most recognizable images of France: Mont Saint-Michel . We are sure that, as a postcard, it will never disappoint anyone, but that does not mean that it may not be a good idea to organize your trip to Mont Saint-Michel to coincide with high tides, with good weather –although in Normandy the climate is changeable and tends to be rainy–, with the right light…

Mont Saint-Michel appeared on our first wish list in Europe in 2004 – yes, we have a handwritten list of places to visit. Photos, puzzles, paintings… the shape of the mountain had crept into our “travel wishes”.
We have complied with the archangel. Now wordpress web design agency we are going to help you so that you can also comply, and arrive with your homework done to enjoy the trip even more.

Where is Mont Saint-Michel and how to get there: nearest airport, bus, train, parking…
Mont Saint-Michel is located in the Normandy region in the north of France, very close to neighbouring Brittany – which often uses it for its tourist brochures. Although the most famous feature is the rocky islet, you should know that there is a part of the commune on dry land, which we call the village of Le Mont Saint-Michel .

The nearest airport to Mont Saint-Michel is Rennes , which is in Brittany. It is the closest, but not very accessible from Spain: there are no direct flights . For a while there were direct flights from Madrid and Barcelona – be sure to check if the routes have reopened. Of course, with a stopover you can get there from any city, passing through Paris, for example.
Once in Rennes, you can take the train to Pontorson station , the closest train station to Mont Saint-Michel. Or take the bus , also operated by SNCF, the French railways, to the village of Le Mont Saint-Michel , much closer to the rock. You can choose almost on the fly, the bus station is very close to the train station.
Can you get to Mont Saint-Michel by public transport ? Right up to the gate in the city walls? Yes. There are city buses from Pontorson . If you have chosen the bus from Rennes, there is a free shuttle bus service from the bus station in Le Mont Saint-Michel – making several stops in the village – every 5-10 minutes, from dawn to midnight. This is what we did: by bus to and from Rennes and by shuttle and on foot to the islet.

Of course, you can also get to Mont Saint-Michel by car , although we don't think this is the best option. However, traffic on the island is limited and you won't be able to enter or get close to it. If you're wondering, where do I leave my car? The hotels at Le Mont Saint-Michel have parking lots and there is also a visitor parking lot at the entrance, next to the bus station.
